A note from the maker
ReadControl helps you save articles from the web and read them whenever you want.
The extension saves your pages and strips out all the clutter, the modals, the banners, the ads. The Mac app lets you set the font type and size, so everything you read looks the way you want it to. Ah, and it does too.
Highlight, tag, and your articles, and build a library of everything you have ever come across. Then use the to find the one you want to send to a friend.
Every page is saved on your machine as a article.md file. You own them, and you can move them whenever you want. I would keep them in a folder that syncs to the cloud too, Dropbox, iCloud, Google Drive, whichever you already pay for.

Questions
Where do I get the browser extension?
Install it from the Chrome Web Store (also Edge, Brave, and other Chromium browsers) or Firefox Add-ons, then click its toolbar button to save any page.
How much does the app cost?
Nothing. ReadControl is free and open-source, no account, no subscription, no trial. You can read every line of it on GitHub.
Which macOS versions are supported?
ReadControl requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
Which browsers does the extension support?
The browser extension works on Chrome 120+, Edge 120+, and Firefox 115+. Safari is not supported yet.
How do I know the app is safe to run?
It's fully open-source, so you can audit exactly what it does on GitHub. Ask Claude for a review. Keep in mind this project is still in beta.
Can I install it on my iPhone?
Not for now.
Is there a Windows or Linux version?
Not yet. ReadControl's engine is written in Rust, so we can reuse a good chunk of the logic and build other UIs on top for different operating systems.

Does the app collect any of my data?
No. ReadControl doesn't collect any of your data, no analytics, no accounts, no tracking. Everything you save stays on your Mac. The only network request it makes is checking for a new version.
